A cautionary story for anyone who’s thinking about starting a candle making business.
A dear mentor and friend of mine had a significant other who convinced them to assist them with their candle making business. At first it seemed like a good idea because their partner had recently lost a well paying job over ‘discrimination’ issues, but under the surface there were other motives at play.
One evening I arrived fashionably late to a dinner party with a guest. My friend’s partner spent time showing us how ‘amazing’ the business they were running was, although it seemed amateurish based on my experience running a family business.
The evening ended with my friend and mentor’s prized plasma tv being shattered by their partner and the police arriving to keep things calm. Fortunately none of the toxic plasma contained inside of the tv leaked out and the authorities did a satisfactory job.
In the end everything worked out just fine as I assumed control of my friend’s regional management role shortly after he left the business to marry another person who was adequately able to provide stability in their life.
Beware candles and anyone who would convince you of the soundness of such a wasted life trying to sell them. Trusting them is as logical as trusting a black bear around beets at a Battlestar Galactica watching party.
