When someone says I am a life coach especially in a tone where they aren't very confident I understand how she got this way. The sad part a lot of people this age are in same boat. Next time you see a younger person driving a 80,000$ vehicle and protruding money remeber most are drowning in debt The real wealthy I know live below their means to be able sustain wealth and not worry. Americans are so stupid in general and the keeping up with the joneses seem more important to people then their own life. It's a rat race everyone is being dupped into She makes enough money but wants it's all. I don't understand it. No one cares if you have fancy things. Where does all this insecurity come from. This country really needs a wake up call. It's a very simple concept. Don't spend more than you have and save the rest. All he needed to do was to better articulate the fact that she has spending problem, not an income problem. He mentioned it briefly a few times. But it never lands fully.
He just needed an analogy that hits hard. Eg Water entering a bathtub as income, with a massive hole at the bottom of the tub, which is spending. She can't out income her spending problem.
I feel like aggressive shaming isn't as useful as compassion, understanding and empathy. She clearly has low financial literacy, but there is a way to say "hey, I need you to know this will really hurt If you don't make big lifestyle changes soon. But the good news is, there is a fix and you can get on top of this.. but real changes need to happen otherwise you could be in an impossible situation"
