The thing people donāt realize who arenāt in this world is it isnāt the hours. You donāt have set hours so you can say, āoh it is 2am, done for the day.ā That would be easy. The point is you donāt have hours and your more senior people will be chasing you through the night to finish something. Everything is always under the gun. Itās different than leisurely working for long hours. Even when you are off a phone call can ruin the next month of your life. You donāt own your time anymore.
Iām saying all of this at 2am after I thought waking up this morning today was going to be an easy day. Iād say signing off by midnight is an āeasy dayā.

1:41 quick correction; bankers actually have very little to do w/ the negotiation process. After IOI day we basically just supervise MPs and make sure they go smoothly (nametags, print and bind presentations, prep pre-meeting handouts, etc). We do provide fairness opinions that are distributed to seller's shareholders/SEC/DOJ that include a valuation but, other than giving the seller a ballpark estimate for what we think they're worth, it's up to the two parties.
