I do not understand the comparison here which is based on target.. the comparison should be with the similar amount of investment.. looking at the number .. in any case mutual fund is better.. as you are investing much lower than nps and still getting the similar target corpus with more liquidity..
Its all about whether you want to take high risks vs low risks.

when nps gets matured you have to give up 40 percent of corpus to insurance company who pay 2 percent less than any other types of investment .You are stuck with this for life. So in the long term 40 percent of your 30 years savings end up with a insurance company who are laughing all the way to the bank.They have your 40 percent of your lifetime savings and paying youn back peanuts interest.

Why not calculate on equal monthly amount.?one has to see the investment and not final amount.
