The past few months I have made a conscious effort to use my car less and if I need to nip out for things like milk etc I walk to the nearest shop. This saves me petrol money and also means I get just under an hour's daily walk.

On the days with bad weather I use an indoor treadmill that I got for free from a friend who bought it on impulse but just wanted it out of her way after it has sat there unused for a year. Win-win!

Loads of exercise equipment is on Facebook marketplace for very little cost and in some cases, FREE, so if I need anything I always check the local listings first.

I have a goal to pay off my car loan by the end of the year or early 2026. This would help create more margin to handle the increased cost of food and be more selective with my food.

Nurse here: looking at Starbucks drinks yes there are drinks up to 1200 calories each but the money part – the Vente and the Grande is the exact same ounces, one cup is tall and slender while the other is a cup that is more proportional.
I once spent 300.00 a month at Starbucks. I stopped drinking coffee out 8 years ago and saw a difference in my health and wallet.

If you do nothing else avoid sugar and seed oils!!! Stick to more natural fats even if they are a bit more caloric. Fats make up your skin, nerves, hormones and the membranes of all the cells in your body so its best to pick good ones. Go for olive oil, avocado oil, lard, tallow, coconut oil, goose fat etc. And make sure to look up what type of sweeteners your using to replace sugar. Many of them have similar glycemic indexes to sugar which means that they raise your blood sugar level up the same as sugar which obviously has adverse health affects over prolonged periods of time. Some even have links to cancer like aspartame. Stevia/Steviol glucosides and erythritol are pretty good but I know not everyone can afford it so just reducing sugar and sweeteners over all is a good idea. And maybe having some fruit or a bit of honey you want something sweet.

I would also love to see something about staying accountable when you don’t have a partner to share financial goals with. But something more than, find a friend to be accountable with.

My goal for 2025 is gonna be cut down on my electricity bill by at least 1/3!!! I wanna lose weight and stop over eating as well as stockpiling food. I also wanna stop mindlessly eating. This will not only save me money and get me back into shape, but since I live alone, I’ll cook less and use less dishes therefore my dishwasher won’t have to run that often!! I do be canning etc a lot so I will still have a bunch of dishes but I think this will make a huge differences . I overspent on food every month!!! This year and when I think about it I would’ve reached my investment goal for this year if I would’ve been smarter about my money. 😢

I do all the things, using templates on Google sheets tracking everything when it comes to budgeting, income streams, my expenses etc.

I want to reach my investment goal and then go into the next one, I want to save up for a big vacation in Finland also wanna keep saving up for buying a house in (hopefully) 2027 without a loan from the bank!

I would love from you to hear more tips about finance and health combined, healthy vegetarian cheap meal ideas, maybe psychological tricks to stop overspending especially when it’s emotionally triggered. Feeling “sad” > “treating yourself” mindset…. I’m very guilty of that.

I want to do no spend starting January for 3 months, if it works out I will do it for 6 months. I’m hoping to save up the losses from this year by then…

Great tips! I was quite intrigued with your fairly recent tip on making more than one payment a month on a credit card. We have 3 more credit cards with substantial balances to pay off, and the sooner, the better. I would love to know more about this strategy, and any tips on simplifying the budget process would be great! I use the good ol' pen & paper technique, which really does work for me. The issue is that I've created multiple checking/savings accounts for sinking funds and paying bills online. Getting the funds to those accounts is becoming monotonous. Does anyone else experience this? Blessings to all!

I am the one that raised the bar on gifts a few years ago. I did this because of an estrangement with family members and the death of my mother. Plus, my significant gal pals have gifting as a love language! (Not hubby thank heaven!) Now it is expected, but with inflation and emergencies; this is becoming unsustainable. How to lower the bar now???
