Just use a No Foreign Transaction fee credit card. This won't be the best option if the vendor or business doesn't accept card so in that case, yes, use Pesos! I've been to Cabo a few times and I can tell you that I rarely needed to use cash. I used the DiDi app for rides (Mexico's UBER) so my card was automatically charged for tips. I will carry some pesos with me for taking the bus, small shops or vendors, tipping, etc. but not much. I will stay about 4 days at a time so $80 or ($1380 in pesos) is all i really need and if i have a lot left towards the end of my trip, Ill spend it or save it for next time.
Do you have a video regarding tipping in Mexico? Ultimately one that gives you the peso amount. Most other tipping in Mexico videos give a USD amount for their tipping
Jan 2026 $17.36 to 1
When I use a random ATM in Mexico, I got scammed for a few thousand dollars extra that they took out. So yes, that part is very true.
Better idea… Don't go to Mexico. The scammers and corruption are off the charts. Spend your money else where

what is the point of a voluntary conversion fee at the ATM's? Why would you knowingly accept?
Question, I haven't been to Mexico since 2013 to visit family. Ik once on the plane you have to declare the amount you have. I have way less than than the maximum being 10k USD or it's equivalent. I have my money before via my bank before going, now my question is when I go through Mexican customs, do I need to worry at the airport about customs shaking me down for money?
10 pesos is not one dollar, it actually is 20 pesos
I am visiting Mexico next month so from your video it sounds like I should only bring cash for tipping, but I can use my debit card for everything else. What I didn’t quite understand was it sounds like I have to choose whether or not my card is gonna convert to USD. Could you explain that a little bit more when I’m using my debit card?
Better yet, don’t come and gentrify Mexico. Bye
Regarding ATMs: I second her thought about using only a bank's ATM. I was in Portugal and I tried to withdrawal cash from a random stand-alone ATM on the street. After I put in my PIN, it ejected my card and told me it was out of service. When I received my bank statement the following month, I found that a whole bunch of small withdrawals had been made using my card somewhere in the Middle East. Thankfully, I was able to prove that I was nowhere near the Middle East on the withdrawal dates, and I got my money back.
They now have 20 peso coins and they closely resemble the 10 peso ones so you have to make sure you check them.
Thanks. Would you suggest getting pesos at the airport before going?
or as the Norse do round up on everything as a tip, there is only 200 not 190
The coins called pesos too? Are they considered a smaller denomination than the bills? I am confused because I got some popcorn in. It said it was 89 pesos and so I gave a one dollar coin and the lady looked at me funny and then I just gave her a bill that said 100 pesos and then she gave me some change back.
More like alley smells
GGGGGGGEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSS Aly you should have commented back to ppl below. BTW DDs right?
She can get all the pesos!
its 2025 and the exchangr rate is aroung 20 to 1.
this girl is ripped.
I use pesos cause I love negotiating
Crazy how the conversion is now 20:1 usd this video isn’t even that old yet
Dont travel to Mexico at all. Stay in your own country.
Do a vid on car repairs.
OMG, after all these years I finally have a use for the tiny calculator I carry in my purse.
I''m impressed everyone casually talks about street food. I also watch some China vids and they
continually report that the street food is not safe.
Hola Aly! Something that you should have mentioned that is helpful to potential visitors. The $20 and $50 peso bills are printed on polymer plastic making them waterproof for swimming in the ocean and to the pool bar! Buena suerte!
Just bring the stripper money to Mexico
And more important venmo is not available in Mexico so please always bring some cash if you really want to tip someone cause saying venmo it seems like you really don’t want to pay or be grateful. Thank you for your attention and welcome to México
Ty for the video, going to Mexico in a few weeks for a month.
What do you recommend tipping? I’m American, so usually at a restaurant it’s 15-20% the bill, is this expected in Mexico?
Thank you is good to know im taken a trip to mexico next week.
Most important to all travelers to mexico always i mean always carry a bottle of peptobismol i been living in Tijuana Mexico for past 5years and you will surely get a food born illness soon or later food cooking procedures in Mexico are way different than in the U.S.
💲💲PLEASE DO NOT TRAVEL TO MEXICO. THE PRESIDENTE DONT CARE ABOUT THE CARTELS. THEY CARTELES ARE THE LAW. THIS PRESIDENCY IS THE HIGHEST IN HOMICIDES. NO TOURISTS TO MEXICO, DONT IGNY THE WARNING. ITS ALL OVER THE NEWS ALL THE TIME BECAUSE OF THE INSECURITY.
So beautiful ❤
thanks
So you are telling me that I can withdraw cash in a Scotiabank ATM in zona romantica? That's too good to be true
You cannot pay in dollars in 99% of Mexico. But 99% of people who visit Mexico from the US or Canada tend to visit the 1% of Mexico that does. That's an important distinction.
Good job, IMO. I have been in Mexico over 25 years and knew most of this. I have been using Santander but have never declined the fees. I will try this. I thought they might cancel the transaction, so I have never tried. Thank you.
I pay rent and online grocery shopping with my debit cards.
You can get pesos at the airport
Do not take the conversion rate. Decline. Use banks that refund ATM fees.
What about exchanging USD or CAD cash (or other currency) in a bank? Is that an option? Any roadblocks?
Dollar is dropping down so Mexicans prefer pesos.
You are gorgeous btw! 🤭
So, we go to Mexico pretty often. What i do is take a bunch of USDs and exchange at casa de cambios. Look around and use the one that is going to give you the most favorable rate.
When shopping or dining out, ask what they pay the USD. If their rate is better than what you got at the casa de cambio, pay in dollars. Otherwise pay on pesos.
I avoid using ATMs and CCs. Only as a last resort.
I go to Central Mexico to visit my Wife's Family. I use a Schwab Debit card. I always take a money belt and stash a could hundred dollar bills and a copy of my passport.
Your videos are absolutely amazing and inspiring. I am one of your best followers.
Thanks. I'll be heading to Mexico next month. Haven't been in many years. Is Scotia bank the only Canadian bank there?
